Overview

Guest Presentation – Will Barton

Will Barton, Lee Valley, spoke to us about some of the new products

He began by telling us of his carpentry experience through Heritage Carpentry (NSCC) and Advance Woodworking Furniture training (Maine)

He presented a detailed overview of the Veritas Shooting Board/ Plane kit as well as the recently added Combination Plane and answered questions on how they work.  He also shared a 40th anniversary small block plane.

Will also provided a number of new Lee Valley sponsored brochures.  Each one includes articles compiled by the editors of Popular Woodworking magazine into focused on a certain area.  We’ll add a copy of each of the following to our AWA library:

  • Marking & Measuring: 11 Articles to Help You Zero In on Perfect Work
  • Sharpening Basics: Planes, Chisels, Saws & More
  • Mortise & Tenon Techniques: 5 Guides to This Essential Joint
  • Jigs & Fixtures: Simple Solutions for Better Work

News & Updates

  • Steve LeBlanc – regularly for small jobs that he will pass on
  • Greg is starting a butterfly kitchen table
  • Andrew Lowe will be presenting in January
  • Phil has veneers to donate to AWA if there is interest (will bring for draw prize in New Year)
  • Stephen and Mary Elizabeth are hosting an open house in West Chezzetcook in February – details to follow

 

Show & Tell

Presentations of toy donations

  • Gary – 250 small cars that he makes through the year
  • Walt – snow bot, preprimary class-testers used and enjoyed his kitchen sets and sewing machines, also brought a build-a-bot
  • Guy – made a herd of 20+ dinosaurs
  • Mike created 3 sets of 5 dinosaur puzzles in bags
  • Tom – monkey bar game – requires precision for climber to fall correctly
  • Steve – staff challenge to make toys from off-cuts – hardwood boat won prize –  staff members sanded toys during recent power outage
  • Brad – turned several wizard wands to sharpen turning skills
  • Don – sets of blocks
  • Tom – Rocking horse and pull toys
  • Doug – flapping ducks
  • Darrel – beds and turned cars (turned in pairs)
  • Phil – games

Lots of prizes donated for this special meeting

TOTAL donation to Salvation Army $616.50 (included contribution of previous 50/50 member winnings + some cash donations)

(Note:  A number of people had a second ticket drawn and passed on selecting another prize.  I haven’t included those people in the winners list.  Thanks for everyone who returned items to the pool for another draw)
