News
- John Green has not been well and is recovering from emergency surgery
- We are still looking for a Vice-Chair, which is an important role for continuity
- BBQ planning – Debbie and Ted are taking a break from hosting this year so we are seeking new options – perhaps a committee?
- Shop Tours – we are hoping arrange a shop tour for the spring/summer so if anyone is interested/willing to host, contact Don Shubaly, Program Coordinator. It would be great to have several shops that are geographically proximate.
Guest Presentation
Andrew Lowe of Lee Valley gave us an overview of making and using threaded dowels using a drill attachment available at Lee Valley.
(The presentation was recorded and we hope to make an edited version available for review on the members only section of our website. If you are interested in viewing the recording, talk to Stephen Parsons.)

Show and Tell
- Stephen (now our web master) shared that he has added a new member profile featuring Brad to the web site
- Don — jig of special sanding block – MDF – cut a slot for sheet – made it to fit half sheet of sand paper – flat hard side and packing material on the other side for soft side sanding – had around for many years – super easy jig
- Dave S – Bagel cutter – kerf with bandsaw blade but too narrow for any knives – took it apart to widen –suggestions for a better way to do — getting ready to have a big event with lots of bagels
- Brad – shooting jig – inclined which allows to slant the blade slightly for a sheering cut – suggestion -could move the end piece you could use a different part of the blade – running the blade against plywood – usually run a bit of wax on it – using low angle jack plane
- Stephen – jig for wine cabinet – needed unusual angles
- Box joint jig – mathias wandel design – woodgears.ca -allows lots of flexibility
- Doug – -Candlestick table “show and ask” to get some feedback -Made a hexagon – wanted to try sliding dove tails but haven’t tried – got a pattern for legs cut on bandsaw and sanded – found that the top of the legs were a bit fragile because they didn’t have enough of a shoulder- Seeking input from others for ideas– would a wider shoulder solve the problem but would lose the traditional look – was going to turn the leg – insert on the table – zero clearance of insert
- Tom – beech with plans to make plane but when cut, all full of holes – might still make a plane – suggestions that it would be really good for turning
- Phil -Gift for Lynn to have larger handles (from Valentine’s day challenge) – small bowl -Spalted maple –
- Experimenting with texture tools—Wagner knurling tools
